Summary:
You can find the most remarkable ricksha arts in Dhaka, Bangladesh. From Joanna Kirkpatrick's opinion, Ricksha Art is a "peoples art." Ricksha artists learned their art from a parent, another Ricksha artist, or they do it by themselves. Ricksha art first began to get popular during the fight for freedom against Pakistan in the early seventies. During this war, it inspired patriotic images and war scenes on the arts. As the years go on you can see more different types of Ricksha art. Such as arts with popular movie imagery, with city scenes, animal scenes, animal fables, country village scenes, floral arts, and much more. In Rajshahi, most of the painted panels on the rickshas were signed with the maker's name. In Dhaka, artists signed their own names. Now currently, rickshas use both the makers names and also artists names.
Thoughts/Emotions/Observations:
What I think about this article is that it was interesting. What I read from the article was something i did not know before. I learned that Ricksha art is from scenes from previous events that happened before. And I did not know that people can paint war scenes during a war. Also, I learned that Ricksha art can come from peoples imaginations.
How article ties to culture:
People paint art to show their customs, traditions and their heritage in a portrait. Art is a combination of our history, culture, and our identity. They sell it as a work of art and to show other people their culture. Doing so will help preserve their culture for generations so they wont forget. Art is important in this country because it preserves their culture.
